Greater Investment in Nursing and Midwifery

Our professions’ contribution to society must be reflected through greater investment by government and employers.

The evidence is clear that understaffing leads to poor patient outcomes and rising costs. Across NSW we are seeing services struggle or fail to deliver the standard of care our communities expect and deserve.

Maternity, mental health, emergency and elective surgery wait times, residential aged care placements, and rising private health insurance are all clear indicators that the system needs urgent reform.

The Whaites Bough team will campaign for the system reforms that our communities need. We will campaign for:

Improved workloads through ratios and other enforceable staffing tools

Maternity services where women want to birth

Investment into a holistic approach to mental health services

This includes increased community and inpatient care, investment in mental health training, and ensuring mental health nurse leadership throughout the system.
