I didn’t start in aged care early, but when I arrived in my late 30s, I found more than a career, I found purpose.
My union journey wasn’t straightforward. It began in male-dominated spaces where “the boys” called the shots. But everything shifted in 2020, just six months into my role in NSW, when I joined the Association as a member.
What struck me immediately was the difference: real belonging. In my workplace branch, every voice matters. No one stands above the collective -we learn from each other, support each other, and grow together.
Since then, I’ve seen incredible growth in aged care membership across the state. Being a friendly, approachable face, someone members trust for guidance and support, is something I value deeply. I support not just members but all coworkers when they’re not sure where to turn to. I’m proud of my involvement in winning significant backpay for members of unpaid allowances.
Now, I’m proud to stand alongside our members, working to ensure our Association continues to lead the way - championing fairness, dignity, and stronger rights for workers everywhere.
