unity through diversity

Our Commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members

As part of the previous leadership team, Michael worked with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members to create voice and leadership within the Association, ensuring their voices are increasingly heard at the tables where decisions are made. The Whaites Bough Team are committed to continuing this work through active truth telling and reconciliation.

Within our industries and communities we are committed to addressing the structural barriers, that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nurses, midwives and carers face on a daily basis. We will do this through:

  • listening to the advice from The Circle

  • truth telling and reconciliation to ensure the Association is providing informed and culturally safe advice and support to members

  • working with all members to bring about the goals of the Uluru Statement from the Heart and a commitment to self determination.

Our Commitment to Anti-Racism and Inclusiveness

We believe in inclusive and respectful workplaces. We commit to working with members to tackle the structural barriers that divide and injure us. Everyone has the right to be safe and included, and have equity in access to career opportunities.

Our groundbreaking work in collaboration through the Anti-Racism Collaborative, and our work on an international scale addressing the needs of migrant workers will continue under our leadership and we will drive diversity in our union leadership structures.
